Third Basemen With The Most Gold Gloves In Mlb History

The Royals (17-11, 10-5 home) maintained a 1-0 lead throughout most of the afternoon, after an RBI double by Billy Butler scored Alex Gordon in the first inning. The Royals outhit the White Sox (13-17, 6-10 away) 9-7.

Having Rodriguez didn’t make up for not having Derek Jeter or Mark Teixeira. In fact, Vernon Wells was the only Yankee swinging a hot bat with a three-hit night, although his teammates had six combined themselves. But with Pettitte giving up seven runs, no amount of offense would have been enough.

Hiroki Kuroda gave a valiant effort on the mound, but once again still was not quite as good as the Yankees would have liked for him to be. He worked out of multiple jams, but still gave up four runs on seven hits and a pair of walks over 6 1/3 innings and did not factor into the decision.

Another guy who will get a look just because of his status on the 40-man. Acquired from the Braves in the glorious Scott Linebrink trade this offseason, Cofield hasn’t pitched above double-A in his career. Furthermore, he hasn’t exactly pitched well in double-A, posting a 4.29 FIP with Mississippi in 2010 that hardly inspires confidence.

With Wood pitching Sunday night for the Cubs in the final game of the first half and Crain currently injured, the introductions likely would be the highlight of the night for Chicago. But then, enter lefty sale jerseys from the bullpen. Sale entered the game as a relief pitcher after the starter of the game Max Scherzer only pitched one inning. Sale then pitched the second and third innings facing six batters and retiring all six.

Two huge holes remain in Boston’s lineup with David Ortiz listed as doubtful and Kevin Youkilis still on the DL with a sore back. None the less, the Red Sox continue to lead the Majors in hitting with a .278 team batting average and scoring with an average of 5.32 runs a game.

Brad Ziegler finished the year with a 3.26 ERA, but that number doesn’t tell an honest truth. Ziegler struggled, taking a bullpen-high seven losses on the year, and his strikeout-to-walk ratio was downright mediocre: he struck out only 41 batters in 60 2/3 innings, while walking 28 batters. Putting that many batters on base with a free pass is a big problem for a reliever.

Then there is Major League Baseball. The Majors have never used instant replay for anything and continue to not use it even here in 2007. Is it time for MLB to begin using instant replay in regular and postseason games? Many fans, journalists, and even those involved directly in the game would say that it is indeed time. However, not everybody is in agreement.

Today’s observations are partly rather personal and partly just watching the scene around me. As usual I was on the left field berm under the scoreboard (under the clock, to be specific). I saw many friends I haven’t seen since last year at Spring Training, so it was great to see them again. Some of these friends are from the Phoenix area, some from Iowa and some even from Connecticut, to name a few. I also saw a few friends from the bleachers at Wrigley. Condolences were conveyed to me by my Chicago friends who, knew about my father’s passing the morning after the second playoff game loss in October.

Jason Frasor is a graduate from Oak Forest High School and pitched for Southern Illinois University. His record this year is 2-1 with an ERA of 2.98, 37 strikeouts and 10 holds. Stewart was sent to the minors. Frasor will definately be an added bonus to the bullpen that already has sale jerseys, Matt Thornton and Sergio Santos.

Years ago, August 17, 1920, to be exact, Cleveland Shortstop Ray Chapman was hit in the head by a pitch thrown by Yankees pitcher Carl Mays. 12 Hours later he died without ever waking up. This tragedy, the only Major League to die so far from being hit, led to a rule requiring Umpires to replace the ball whenever it became dirty.

What worries me is that I’m not sure Owens will be able to simply hit the ball harder. His extra-base numbers in the minor leagues are not impressive: 24 in 2006, 13 in 2007, 12 in 2008 (all with AAA Charlotte). He may not have it in him to get 30+ extra base hits in a season, so if he’s going to stick for at least a year, he has to turn himself into an on-base machine.

“If the first week of the year is any indication, the Sox will have no problem shutting down games if a starter carries a lead past the sixth inning,” said Stankevitz.

Sox Prospects Sharpening Their Game In Kannapolis

24. Minnesota Twins – The big question in Minnesota is if Ron Gardenhire will keep his job. It’s unlikely the Twins will show much improvement for another couple of years.

Runners can register in advance for or at the race for . Fundraising is encouraged but not required. Prizes for the top fundraisers include sale jerseys ticket vouchers, autographed baseballs and the chance to walk on the field before game on August 17 for a photo with a current player.

The gathering will mark the 30 year anniversary of the 1983 team that won the AL West division crown. That club went 99-63 before bowing out to the Baltimore Orioles in the playoffs. Known for the mantra “Winning Ugly” during their run, the Sox wouldn’t again claim the west divisional crown until 1993. This year also marks the 119th year the club has been in existence.

“If the first week of the year is any indication, the Sox will have no problem shutting down games if a starter carries a lead past the sixth inning,” said Stankevitz.

19. Seattle Mariners – Are the Mariners ready to contend in the AL West? I think they are short a bunch of pieces, but who knows what their GM believes after holding onto so many veterans at the trade deadline.

If they continue to develop, the team will have outfield depth with Hawkins and also Trayce Thompson and #Jared Mitchell. Mitchell may be the best athlete in the organization. He was a two sport star in college, can run, hit, and play good defense. Another name to keep an eye out for is first baseman Keon Barnum. He is another left hand hitter with good power. But is it enough to turn around the franchise?

This is not to say that people were not watching the Cubs win9-8 today, they were, but it didn’t look to me like most people were watching as intently as they do during the regular season. I only saw one person actually keep score today, which was a real trial as there were 46 different players in today’s game! Keeping a scorecard is a real challenge with so many different players!
